Weekend Preview - January 4th
Weekend Preview
Here it is the weekend already. It seems like it just was the weekend. I don’t have a lot of plans for the weekend yet. I may pull something together before the end of the weekend.
One of my potential plans is going to see the film CHILDREN OF MEN that goes into wide release in the United States on Friday. Doug has seen the film and he thinks it is the best film of 2006. He thinks it is one of the ten best films of the decade. That seems like a very good recommendation for me so I will see if I can work the film into my schedule.
What was he thinking?
Alan Mulally was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the Ford Motor Company last Summer. Nice job if you like to drive new cars.
I was reading an Associated Press report today that Mulally just cancelled a new Lexus that he ordered.
The CEO of Ford Motor ordered a Lexus; what was he thinking?
This has to be one of the most incredible management blunders that I can recall happening. If nothing else, it showed a profound lack of common sense and lack of support of your employer that is fighting for its economic survival.
Doug the Intern
Doug called me today to update me on his new internship job. He has to do an internship as part of his Film Studies degree program.
Doug said he was going to be working two days a week at a production company that is based on the Sony Pictures lot in Southern California. He was walking around the lot yesterday when he saw a director he really respects.
I asked him what he was doing for eight hours. Doug said he was answering telephones and reading scripts that the production company had acquired. So far, he said he had read three scripts and he liked two of the three scripts.
It must be nice to be Doug.
El Gringo
I went to El Gringo on Wednesday for dinner. I hadn’t gone to El Gringo on Wednesday since December.
Valerie the Server said she missed me last week. I had lots of the Christmas dinner leftovers to hold me over and there was no need to go to El Gringo. I explained that I was home eating my way through the leftovers. I had turkey and ham and mince pie to eat plus the wine to go with the food. Either I was really early or business was off on Wednesday so Valerie and I had a chance to catch up on our respective Christmas vacations and her school plans. We both had very good Christmases. Valerie is going to change schools with this semester so she can become a registered nurse sooner.
El Gringo changed the menu since Doug and I started going there in September. The menu got expanded and they added a larger lunch and children’s menu. Some items were added to the menu.
I ended up with a machaca burrito. It was on the new items on the menu. This is a fancy name for a beef burrito that is made with shredded beef instead of ground beef.
Woman of the Moment
This is always a good way to close the blog posting. I decided to add a bonus photo in addition to the usual two images.
Be well and stay happy.
