Windy windy
Windy windy
The winds were blowing today.
I was out driving in the Prelude this afternoon. I was glad I was not driving the Pathfinder with its high sides. I stopped and got out of the car. The wind was so strong that it blew the open car closed. I was glad that I did not have my fingers in the car door jams.
I was driving on the freeway and I could feel the car being moved by the wind. It is a weird sensation to feel your car move laterally and bounce as you are moving along at 70 miles an hour / 112 kilometers an hour.
On the plus side, it will be clear over most of Los Angeles tomorrow except for Malibu where there is a very strong wind driven brush fire raging out of control. So far, eight or ten homes have been burned or are totally engulfed by the flames. The homes are built extremely close together, less than a meter apart, because they are on the ocean so it is very easy for a fire spread.
It is also difficult to fight the fire because the area has not been burned in over twelve years. The brush has grown and is very dry because of low rain fall. The current rainfall total for the year [July 2006 to June 2007] is only 25% of normal.
Komyo Ga Tsuji
I watched my samurai drama on Saturday. It was Episode 48. It seems as if the show is coming to a close or will close shortly. His wife reconciled with him and moved back to the new castle that he built.
Yamauchi’s standing with Tokugawa, who has become the Shogun, has risen significantly because the violent pacification of the province. The pacification prevented a larger rebellion that would have plunged Japan into another civil war.
The episode ended with Yamauchi collapsing on the top floor of his new castle while he was reflecting with his wife. I think the series will end in one or two more episodes since Japan is entering an extended period of peace.
Dae Jo Young
I started watching this Korean historical drama on Saturday. This historical drama began in the middle seventh century Korea [634 AD]. The driving element of the first episode was an invasion of Korea by the forces of the Tang Empire. The Chinese threw a million man army across the Yalu River as an invasion force.
The Chinese emperor was leading the invasion because he wanted to be the first person to conquer a Korean fortress. His brother died trying to capture the fortress several years before.
I did some reading about Dae Jo Young before I started watching the show. For what I understand, he helped bring about the unification of part of Korea. So far, I have not seen him in the first episode. Maybe he will show up next week.
One of the fascinating aspects of the show was the cast. I recognized several actors who appeared in the earlier Korean historical drama AGE OF WARRIORS and a couple of actors from THE IMMORTAL YI SOON SHIN. I guess there is steady work for actors in this type of historical drama.
Woman of the Moment
Here we have Kyoko Hasegawa. I did get to see her current television show last night. The plot line is following the anticipated story line.
Be well and stay happy gentle readers.
