Lesson Plans and Lecture Notes

Lesson Plans and Lecture Notes
I am currently up to my eyeballs in lesson plans and lecture notes. I picked up a part time teaching assignment at a technical school yesterday. I got my text book copies this morning and I teach my first class tomorrow morning from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM and I have another class on Thursday morning from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM.

I was hired as a long term substitute to teach three classes. I am teaching Business and Information Systems, Fundamentals of Tax Preparation, and Principles of Marketing. Since my MBA was in Marketing, I can teach the marketing class in my sleep. The other classes will require some work on my part.

The text books are smaller than what I am used to so that will make reading the chapters easier for me. The text books look like they are half sized.

I don’t think I was hired for my brilliant academic record or range of prior teaching experiences. I think my hiring was more of an act of desperation on the part of the school. The original teacher was pregnant with a delivery date after the end of the term so there was no problem for her. Then, she got sick and her doctor said no more teaching. She went out on medical leave of absence in the middle of the term.

Enter me.

I can teach the classes successfully. I would prefer not to be teaching at a technical school but I need to get some current classroom teaching experience before I can move on the university level teaching.

My first class session is going to be a “by guess and by golly” approach since I have no idea what the students have or have not learned. I also have to get to know them and they need to understand me. Fortunately for me, all of my classes are small with less than ten students per class.

Having less than ten students per class is a real luxury for me. When I taught at my local community college, I was used to having classes of 35 or more students. Of course, not all of them showed up at one time until the final examination.

I will have to work hard to get up to speed with these classes. I will spend time developing my lecture notes and supplemental materials for the courses. Then, with my luck, I will not teach them again.

So much for class development for me.

Programming Note
Since my life has changed somewhat, my blog postings may be on the sketchy side for the next week or so or until I get things sorted out with the teaching assignment.

Women of the Moment Web Sites
I wandered into the Sunisa Kim web site [http://www.sunisakim.com] to see if it was completed yet. When I visited it in late November, it was under construction still. I think the web site is still under construction or has a dreadfully slow server or a tremendous traffic count. It took over twelve minutes to download only 30% of the site.

Just to check that my Internet connection and my laptop were not the cause of the trouble, I opened K.T. So’s web site [http://www.ktso.com]. It opened fully in a couple of second, probably no more than ten seconds.

I think my setup was just fine based on the second download.

The Princess
The Princess called me last night to let me know she received the package I sent her with the coffee for her coworkers and the Christmas photos. She was going to take the coffee into her coffee drinking coworkers this morning. I am highly confident that the coffee is vastly superior to what the company buys for the staff and that the coworkers will love it.

I suspect that the development group where the Princess works may now start getting visitor traffic from other departments when the word of the good coffee leaks or sips out.

Woman of the Moment
We are about to end Kyoko Hasegawa’s term as Woman of the Moment.

Being the conscientious blog writer that I am, I was out looking for new Women of the Moments. I was specifically looking for a non-Asian woman for variety. I went to Speed Options’ web site since they have a great source of photos.

There were a number of Western women in the models section but a lot of them had what I call a sneer smile photo image. I suppose someone told the models that the combination sneer and smile is sexy and attractive. I am just turned off by it. I was able to find a couple of Western women for the next couple of Women of the Moment.

Then, I plan to have Michelle Yeoh and Gong Li as Women of the Moment. I like them for several reasons. They smile in their photos. They are both over forty which is almost prehistoric for a female actress in Hollywood films.

Be well and stay happy.
