Teaching
Teaching
I taught my first class in about twenty years today.
Because of the confusion and lack of consistent teachers, the class and the course resemble a train wreck. I feel sorry for the students who are the ones to suffer the most. It will be difficult for me to make up for four lost weeks of class in the remaining five weeks.
My class today on Business and Information Systems has a roster of ten students. Only seven showed up and the majority of them did not seem all that interested in being in class. I want to have the students participate so I can see what they know or have learned but getting them to speak up is harder than pulling teeth.
I think I did well today and I think I reached some of the students. The real test will come next Wednesday and we have another class. If the students show up and if they have done their homework assignments, then I will feel that I have accomplished something.
Then, if the students don’t like my approach to teaching or the way I have structured the class, then I am over it now.
I will move on to new adventures and opportunities.
I worked on my lesson plans for tomorrow’s class on Marketing. I am going to talk about product strategies, branding, and new product development in one class session. I took a full semester course in New Product Development when I got my Master of Business Administration degree. This class is obviously a survey or overview course.
Doug
Doug called tonight to see how my first class went. I said that I thought it went well but one never knows. I won’t know until next week’s class and I see how many students show up.
We talked about his internship at the film production company. He is still on Winter break so he is putting in more time as an intern. Work at the production company office was slow this week because the principles of the company were in Europe promoting the company’s newest release. Next week, school starts so he will be cutting back his time to just two days a week.
Woman of the Moment
Today and tomorrow will be the last photos for Kyoko Hasegawa. I will have a new Woman of the Moment for the Weekend Update on the 14th.
Be well and stay happy.
