Weekend Preview - November 2nd
Still Waitin’ for the Plumber
I couldn’t make an appointment for the plumber for this morning because I had a job interview out in Orange County, behind the Orange Curtain. I figured that it was good for the morning when you include driving time.
I called the plumbing company when I got out of the interview. This dispatcher said she would assign the first available service man after Noon; the time when I would be back home and able to let him in to fix the water heater.
About two hours in the plumber vigil, I heard from the plumber who wanted to know what size my broken water heater was. He thought he could be out here in an hour or so and that would mean I could have my life starting to go back together later this afternoon.
Excellent.
Job Searching and Interviewing
This was an unusual job interview.
It was the second interview with the company and first live interview. I had done a telephone interview with Human Resources that was more of a qualifications determination interview.
The thing that made this interview unusual was that it was with the President. Interviewing with the President is always a fun time because you never know just what to say. In the company’s organization, I would report to someone else whose name I do not know and I have never spoken to.
I would have thought I would meet with the person I would report to first and then meet with the President later on. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
El Gringo
I felt bummed out last night so I went to El Gringo for dinner because I didn’t feel like cooking
I can cook fairly well. This is a photo of my Monday evening meal. It is or was a Sesame Seed Crusted Ahi Tuna in a ponzu sauce and a sliced tomato with a low fat dressing. I also had a lettuce and tomato salad.
I picked up a bottle of red wine when I bought the fish because it was on sale. It was something like 40% off so I figured why not take a chance on it. The wine is a sturdy, solid, and pedestrian Napa Valley Pinot Noir.
I think I should have picked up a white wine to go with the fish. The Pinot Noir did not work out as well as I had hoped.
This is Valerie.
Valerie is the Wednesday evening server at the Redondo Beach El Gringo. Like many young women from Southern California, Valerie is blonde and wears tight fitting hip hugger jeans. She also has a tan. Valerie is a very fun person; I will probably be back at El Gringo on a Wednesday soon. Valerie said that she worked at the Hermosa Beach El Gringo on the weekends, suggesting I suppose that I could visit her there if I was so inclined. If I went to see Valerie on the weekend, I would miss out on seeing Whitney and that would be wrong.
The sweatshirt doesn't do Valerie justice. She is much more attractive than my poor photo would have her appear. Sorry Valerie.
I decided to have a semi-healthy dinner at El Gringo. I had the Number 2 Combination of two blackened mahi mahi tacos, rice, and beans and no dessert. I was going to put a photo of the Combination in the blog but since the tacos were wrapped in paper, you can’t see very much and I have put up enough photos that show rice and beans.
Vivian’s Man of the Moment
I nudged Vivian to send me her Man of the Moment for this week.
Judging from her email response, Vivian is not having a good week of it. This is to be expected since it is the start of the AFI – Los Angeles International Film Festival. I suppose she was up to her short red hair in details and crises and other fun events and activities.
I think Vivian will recover by the end of week.
In the mean time, Vivian gave me Jason Mraz as her Man of the Moment. She said his singing helped her keep her head when others were losing there’s around her. Vivian was tempted to ram her head through her computer monitor. That is always a difficult and upsetting situation to be in. She also said she had been watching him on VH-1’s 100 Greatest Songs of the 80s.
Vivian and I have much different television viewing habits.
Woman of the Moment
I almost forgot to include my Woman of the Moment. I really must need a rest then.
Weekend Plans
My Weekend Plans can be a little firmer now.
I will call Sharon after the water heater is fixed. We had talked about having lunch this week and I would be able to do that once I know the water heater is taken care of.
I have the dissertation to work on and that is always good for hours than I have available in the weekend.
Then, there is the cinema and I could easily soak up five or six hours in a movie theater over the weekend.
Of course, no weekend would be complete without my Sunday afternoon lunch – dinner at El Gringo with Whitney the Weekend Server.
Lastly, I need to get my Weekend Bonus Feature ready to go for a Friday posting. I haven’t made up my mind whether I want to feature another model from Speed Options on the Weekend Bonus or a young Korean actress that I have been seeing on a weekly Korean language, with good subtitles, soap opera. I guess you’ll just have to come around and see for yourself.
I hope you all have a good weekend gentle readers and come back on Sunday for the Weekend Update.
Be well and stay happy.
