Letdown Monday

Letdown Monday
Today was a let down for me.

I had a good weekend that included a trip to Fatburger with Doug and lunch at El Gringo on Sunday. I got things done like laundry and cleaning. I got to sleep late for once. It was all good. I could grub out and not shave and no one was going to yell at me.

Then came Monday and back to the routines of life.

Liz the Lonely
This is the week where or is it when Liz the Lonely is supposed to call me about getting together on Saturday mid-morning. She had sort of agreed to meet me down in the South Bay section of Los Angeles County for coffee. We can meet at a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in Manhattan Beach that should be almost freeway convenient for Liz.

Doug and I did talk about the potential meeting. He is hoping it goes well for me; I think he wants to see me settle down some and not be alone as much as I am.

Liz’s phone call would be nice because it would help solve the “Who shall I ask to go to the theater with me?” question. I just received a packet of tickets for one theater that I go to. Certainty is so nice.

Woman of the Moment
I was thinking this morning while I was reading the paper about whether or not Salma Hayek was a good choice for Woman of the Moment. I decided that she was a good choice.

Job Searching and Interviewing
I got a phone call from a recruiter this morning. He wanted me to come in and talk with him about some possible contract work that he might have for me. I said that I could come in and we agreed upon a time.

I got to the recruiter’s office and filled out the usual paperwork. I hate filling out paperwork. The guy who called me was out of the office unexpectedly so I spoke with his co-worker.

The co-worker had an interesting contract job for about two months. He needed someone who could build a complex model for a mortgage credit product. The model had to have a seven year duration, generate cash flows under a variety of interest rate scenarios, and predict return on investment.

I told the recruiter that job was way over my head and that what he needed was a quantitative analyst with a master’s in either mathematics or statistics from a major real estate lender. The problem with the search is that anyone in Southern California who could do the work is not going to give up a permanent job to take something for a month and a half or as long as it takes to build and validate the model. The job is perfect for a professor of mathematics or statistics who is on a sabbatical leave for a year.

Then when I got home, I had an email from another recruiter asking me if I would be interest in a contract position doing interest rate risk compliance auditing. Since it was late when I got home, I decided to call the recruiter in the morning. Besides auditing chills my bones and makes me feel uneasy.

Be well and stay happy.
