Weekend Update - October 1
Weekend Update
It was another dull and boring weekend for me. I got some stuff accomplished so that was good.
Visitors
This blog posting marks the end of the month of September but you all knew that. We had another good month for overall visitors. 337 visited the blog during the month; this is up slightly from August. The viewing increase is noteworthy because there is one fewer day in September and I wrote one less blog because of the Labor Day Weekend.
The foreign visitor count was strong again this week. We had visitors from the United Kingdom [3], Germany, Italy, Switzerland [2], Japan [2], Singapore [2], Indonesia, Canada, Texas, Australia, Iceland, India, Austria, China, and Romania.
We had a daily high visitor count of 22 on September 26th.
We had one curious visitor who spent 27 minutes reading the blog postings.
I do appreciate you stopping by and reading what I have to say.
Our Utes imploded and self destructed yesterday at Rice – Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. This was a bad way to end Homecoming.
Utah lost to Boise State University 36 to 3. This was the worst home loss for Utah in 17 years. You can see why imploded seems like a great adjective to use in this case. The game was televised but my cable company either doesn’t carry that channel or it is not part of my cable service package. At first, I was upset about not being able to see the game. Now, I don’t feel that way.
The game was closer than the scoreboard makes it appear. The first quarter end with the scoring tied at 3 and 3. The fourth quarter scoring was Boise State 3 and Utah 0. It was the middle of the game when Boise State scored 30 points that killed Utah. Utah was only able to muster 178 yards of total offense during the game. 178 yards is a good half total yards for Utah under normal conditions.
There is life after defeat and so I can look forward to the next game for Utah.
Utah will play Texas Christian University at Rice – Eccles Stadium on Thursday evening. TCU is 3 – 1 for the season so far and was ranked 17th in the nation until last week’s loss to Brigham Young University. The Thursday night game should be televised nationally so I just might want to tune in and catch the game.
I just checked and the game is not being televised here in Southern California. Instead, we get Florida State and North Carolina.
Woman of the Moment
Here we have some more of Salma Hayek. I like her because she is untall. That is nice for me.
Lunch at Fatburger
Doug and I had lunch at Fatburger on Friday. He was the first stop for the service technician and that was incredible good luck.
It had been awhile since we had been to this Fatburger in Aliso Viejo [South Orange County, California and not too far from Laguna Beach]. We had talked about what we were going to get for lunch as we drove from Doug’s house to Fatburger.
I had more time to think about what to get for lunch because traffic on the 405 Freeway was moving along very nicely. I cruised at around 70 miles per hour / 122 kilometers per hour. Of course, I had to slow down when I was driving on the non-freeway local roads.
I had decided to get a Kingburger with cheese and fries and a medium drink. A Kingburger is 8 ounces / 227 grams of beef with onions, pickles, tomatos, lettuce, pickle relish, ketchup, and mustard. As I thought about the meal, I made up my mind to try the Kingburger with bacon. It’s been over a month since I went to Fatburger so I think I can live it up once in a while.
Doug didn’t makeup his mind until we walked in.
Fatburger changed their menu and raised their prices slightly since our last visit. They did add a King Deal which is a Kingburger with cheese, fries, and a medium drink for USD$9.09. Bacon added an extra USD$0.60 to the basic King Deal price.
Our Kingburgers were excellent.
We talked about El Gringo Restaurant because we had both enjoyed the first time we went there. Doug though Aleasa the El Gringo Girl was interesting.
Lakai Skate Shoes
Doug and I stopped at Laguna Surf and Sand before lunch to get a new pair of Lakai Skate Shoes for me.
This was a disappointment for me. Naturally, the styles have all changed and the current styles are only sort of close to what I am wearing now. I found one that was close and therefore acceptable to me.
We had to hunt down a sales clerk so he could tell us if they had my size in stock. He went in the back and returned with a box under his arm. These shoes were size 9 ½; I wear a 10 or 10 ½ size shoe. I know from serving and marching in the United States Marine Corps Reserve that you don’t buy the wrong size of shoe. The sales clerk went back and checked again and came out empty handed.
Doug suggested that I try looking up a local Lakai retailer on Google.
I did that when I got home. Google was fast and found over 77,000 references for Lakai Skate Shoes in less than a second. Unfortunately, none were from local retailers or the manufacturer, Lakai. I really shouldn’t say none were local retailers because I didn’t try to scroll through all 77,000 references.
I think I may spend some time during the week and hit the local surf and skate shops in my area. This will probably be more productive for me.
Dissertation
I sent part of my second chapter off to my Committee Chair for his comments. I wanted to see if I was heading in the right direction or not before I burned a ton of hours writing the chapter.
El Gringo Restaurant
As is now my habit, I went to El Gringo Restaurant in Redondo Beach for my Sunday late lunch – early dinner meal.
I had a new server at El Gringo today. Very nice and pleasant but never mentioned her name so she will be Ms Z for the time being. I asked her about the server turnover. Ms Z said it was because the restaurant had just opened and they were still sorting things out. She said she expected to be the regular Sunday afternoon server. That will be nice.
I had the two tacos combination plate where I substituted the grilled Mahi Mahi on both tacos. It was very good; the fish was fresh and crisp. I thought the cabbage in the taco was an excellent change of pace. I didn’t realize until my third bit of the tacos that it was blackened grilled Mahi Mahi.
It was spicier than I thought it would be. I was tempted to swing by Coldstone Creamery on my home and suck down a large waffle ice cone filled with chocolate and coffee ice cream to chill the burning sensation. Reason prevailed and I didn’t go overboard on food today.
That was my weekend gentle readers. I hope you all have a profitable and productive week.
Be well and stay happy.
