Back to Work and Other Things
Mostly, this blog is about other things. You know, not much about work because work is boring for most of us.
I was chatting with a lawyer the other day. We got into a discussion about downloading music files. She asked me if I knew how to download MP3s and other music files. That surprised me greatly. I would have thought that a lawyer, of all people, would know about things like copyright infringement and illegal downloading.
I said that I had never downloaded any music files because I believe that doing that without payment was wrong and a copy right violation. She was surprised that I felt that way; she said she had no problems with downloading files.
Odd.
I have a Handspring Visor PDA. I’ve had it since maybe 2000 or so and I am very happy with it. It has worked just fine for me over the years. I only use it for the calendaring and for my address book. The Visor has no email functionality; it can’t take photos; and it can’t play MP3 files. It does exactly what I want it to do and no more.
I am not one of those obnoxious people who must be connected to everyone twenty five hours a day or even more.
Over the weekend, I decided to update my Outlook in the laptop.
I tried to load my Handspring software that came with the Visor. It is not compatible with Windows Vista. That did not surprise me at all.
I went to the Handspring wed site to see if they had a Windows Vista patch or update. The web site said they may have a Beta version by mid-Summer. That struck me as being awfully flat footed. It’s not like Windows Vista was a surprise to anyone with a WinTel personal computer. Vista’s release was well announced and developers had plenty of time to prepare for the release.
I guess this means that Handspring – Palm Pilot did not or do not care for their customers because they would have had a patch available when Vista was released. I suppose Handspring will want me to buy the newest and greatest version of the Visor instead of patching the old product.
Given the choice between buying a new product and staying with the old product that is not compatible with Vista, I think I will stay with the old product since it still works. I will just have to make manual entries to Outlook.
Making manual entries is not the end of the world by any means.
I also have to buy a new version of Microsoft Money. My edition is 1999. This is fine with me. I can accept it since my version was written for Windows 95. I can also accept buying a new version since my old company bought the copy of Money for me anyway.
El Gringo
Jess the Server was not working on Sunday so I have nothing to report about her. It has been two weeks since I last saw her. The server who was there was nice. She was busy so I didn’t have time to ask for her name. Besides that, the replacement server was a blonde and I do not generally get along well with blondes.
I had two chicken soft tacos with rice and beans for dinner. I had planned to have a root beer with my dinner. Unfortunately for me, the soda equipment was not working so I had ice water instead. I saved a few dollars on the drink so that was good.
Woman of the Moment
Here we have Carmen Electra again. I have come to view her more favorably since I began to post her photos for the Woman of the Moment. I hope you enjoy these photos.
Be well and stay happy.
