Weekend Update - May 13th

Weekend Update
I had a good weekend.

It was also a thin weekend for activities for me.

The road construction – repaving project appears to be at the half way point. I saw the “No Parking” signs in front of the building that indicated the project ought to be finished by June 1st. The workers will begin replacing the center portion of the pavement. Parking will continue to be problematical until construction is finished.

The tree trimmers were back outside of my building on Friday. This time they were trimming the trees. I think this was the first time that the city had general trimming done as far as I can remember. The trees are now more open and my flat seems breezier now. I’m going to say that is a good outcome for me.

Visitors
We had another good week for visitors. We had visitors from Texas, United Kingdom [4], France [6], Ireland [2], Poland, Spain, Mexico, Canada [4], Estonia, Singapore, Czech Republic, India, Belgium, Chile [2], Benin, and Brazil.

I believe this was the first visit from Benin to the blog.

We also had one visitor who stopped for fifteen and a half minutes.

I do appreciate each of you who took time out from your busy schedules to visit Balancing Checkbooks.

Chuckay Dinner – Part II
I had talked to Doug while he was at my flat during the week about going to dinner at Albertacos on Saturday. It has been a couple of months since we were last there for a meal.

Saturday made sense to me since I would be in Anaheim at 5:30 PM. I would be more than half way to Doug’s house. This was significant with the price of gasoline continuing to increase almost every other day. We agreed that I would give him a call as I left school and headed south on the 5.

Perfectomundo.

My cell phone went off during my Saturday class. I thought it was Amy. She said that she was going to phone me over the weekend. It was Doug. I guess Amy was busy.

Doug was calling to say he had to cancel the dinner at Albertacos. His friend Coulter was back on the Coast from New York. Coulter was having a bar-be-que at his parents’ house and Doug was going to go there. That made sense; Doug had stayed with Coulter when he went to New York. We can always go to Albertacos another time.

The Atlanta Trip
I made all of the arrangements for the trip to Atlanta on Friday. The Princess made the dinner reservations for Saturday night at Morton’s in Buckhead. It will be a small group, only four of us. This will be the first time the fiancé has gone to Morton’s. He ought to enjoy himself.

My Friend Sharon
I phoned my friend Sharon on Saturday. She was away from her phone so I left her message to call me. I discovered that I was going to be in Atlanta when I had my tickets for the La Mirada Theater. I thought she would want to go to the play. Sharon has always enjoyed the theater.

I thought Sharon phoned me in the middle of my class. I have two cell phones that I use all of the time. My Cingular cell phone is the primary phone. I use it for almost all of my calls. I use my Verizon cell phone to call the Princess and Sharon.

The caller was one of my students. He was calling to say that he would not be in class on Saturday. I had expected him to call in and say he would not be in class.

Sharon will probably call me on Monday.

Teaching
My Saturday class was better. I almost had a full class; nine out of eleven students showed up for the start of the class. Of course, not everyone stayed around for the end. Only six stayed for the entire class.

One of the students asked me to look at his big project. I took a look at it and was disappointed. He had turned in for another class. There were countless spelling and grammar errors. There were gross errors in style and structure. It looked as if the student has plagiarized the work.

I was shocked that the student had actually turned the paper in and that he received a high mark on it. It was, at best, a barely average paper. I hope he turns in a much better project for my class.

Woman of the Moment
We are coming to the end of the Carmen Electra period as our Woman of the Moment. I have found a replacement and she will be up during the week. For the time being, we will have to satisfy our visual needs with Carmen Electra.

I can do that. I hope you can do that as well.

El Gringo
I will be going to el gringo for a late lunch or early dinner. I will let you know about the meal and how Jess the Server was on Monday.

I hope you had a great weekend.

Be well and stay happy.
