Winter is Coming
I wore a vest to work with my suit today. I really looked like a corporate executive, most like an IBM salesman. I was wearing a dark blue suit, white shirt, dark red tie, and highly polished black shoes.
Stunning; just stunning.
Every once in a while, I take the time to make sure I have the perfect corporate image. You better make that the traditional corporate image and not this business casual / business sloppy style that seems to be so popular these days. I bet that there is a generation of men out there who don’t know how to properly shine shoes.
One thing you learn when you are with the Marines is dressing smartly. The Marines have a term for those who cannot dress properly; the term is civilian. There are other terms but I don’t want to really offend you gentle readers by sharing those terms of endearment with you.
Days
It was Day 13 today. I suppose that the cooler winter [ok Southern California winter] weather has dampened my desires for ice cream somewhat.
I could celebrate the end of the year with an ice cream bar. That sounds right to me.
Courtyard Observations
It was another interesting day for courtyard observations.
I happened to glance out my window while I was waiting for a large document to print. What else can you do while a document prints and no printer is ever as fast as the box label claims it is when it comes to churning out the document.
I saw a young woman walking up to the building door. She looked like she was in sales; she had one of those brief cases on wheels and a big folder holder under her arm. She wore a nice suit, coat and skirt.
Looking good; looking professional until I saw her feet.
And then she lost me and I nearly lost my breakfast.
She was wearing flip flops instead of regular shoes. What ever happened to women wearing dress shoes to work?
Did someone screw up and not give me the memo on that subject? Probably yes.
So, there I was watching her make an entrance into the building. I hope who ever she was seeing was an indulgent person who makes allowances for others eccentricities. If the young woman was meeting with me, I think she would have had a hard time getting me to buy whatever it was she was selling.
I probably would have answered her open ended questions with a simple yes or no or even a maybe. Direct answers tend to drive sale people crazy because it doesn’t allow them to control the conversation. I could have just gone off on a discussion tangent that interested me and ignored what she had to say.
Today was my day for bad observations.
A little later on while I was waiting for a return phone with the missing information that I needed for the project I was working on , I saw a European American young woman walking up to the building entrance.
She looked really professional with a nice pants and blazer outfit. She was talking on her cell phone because she was really, really, super important and had to prove to the whole world that she is important because she wouldn’t be talking on her cell phone if she wasn’t important.
Or so the theory goes.
She was pulling her rolling brief case box. I guess it was full of really important stuff. Then again maybe not.
She stopped just before the entrance and stuck her hand down the back of pants.
She was a tuggin’ and a fussin’ with her underwear like it had all rode up on her during the ride in from Pomona. I guess she needed to clear things up so her mind would be free and clear and without tension and stress for her meeting.
This was perfect.
Here we have two women on two consecutive days that are acting like most of the guys do. You know a pickin’ and a scratchin’ and such. They were almost like us.
Damn, that made me feel a right good. It made me feel great to be a livin’ in this great land of ours.
They would be perfect companions. I know they scratch in public so they wouldn’t be embarrassed if I scratched just a bit.
All they need to be dead solid perfect is a love for Morton’s beef dinners, Albertacos, American football, anime, NASCAR, Japanese high school girl crime / slasher / horror films [for Doug], apple pie, and the Original Tommy’s Mega Combo meals.
What more could a guy want in a woman?
Ummmm, maybe an ability to cook beyond tossing the frozen plate into the microwave oven. She could know how to cook. That would be nice. Being able to drive a car with a manual transmission would be nice but not a requirement in Los Angeles. Driving a manual transmission car in Los Angeles would cause her to overdevelop her left leg from all of the clutching that would be necessary.
Life is so fascinating these days. I wonder what tomorrow will bring me.
Be well and stay happy.
